senior session prep tips

It's almost senior portrait season!

A lot of time (and $$) goes into your portrait session, so you want to be prepared, relaxed and make the most of your big day!

BONUS:  Download the 1pg Senior EMERGENCY KIT packing list to make sure you've thought of absolutely everything!

PACKING LIST PLEASE : )

A few tips to keep in mind  : )

1. Think about the story you want to tell.  Do your outfits and locations support that story? What props could you bring along? (think sports equipment, jersey, instruments, varsity jacket, books, etc.).

2. Shop waaaay ahead of time!  You just never know. If you are ordering online, order a couple different sizes and maybe a second color just in case.  Better to return later than stress & scramble at the last second.

3. Try on EVERYTHING - the entire outfit.  Now . . .  sit, squat, bend, stand, lay down in front of a full length mirror.  If you don't like how it looks in the mirror choose another outfit!  You will not look confident in that outfit, and it will show in your photos.  Choose only the things that you LOVE!

And a few more things...

4. Layers are great!  Don't forget jackets, vests, scarves or hoodies. They can add interest and mix up the look of your gallery (and help if it's a chilly night).

5. No wrinkles please! Iron and steam your outfits ahead of time.  Hang all of the accessories on the hanger.  Belts, bras, scarves & jewelry in a bag too.  Stick socks in your boots.

6. Pack the car the night before, put the address in your GPS and leave a little early for traffic.  No need in stressing on your session day! Grab a copy of the EMERGENCY KIT checklist to make sure you've thought of everything.

And there you have it! Little things like this will get you more time in front of the camera and a lot less frustration looking for that lost earring : )

When should I schedule senior photos?

Summer and early fall are definitely the most popular times for Michigan seniors.  However, to give yourself time for all the preparation (and to make sure your date isn't taken), I recommend booking at least 2-3 months in advance.

A quick inquiry form is all you need to fill out to get the process started.  Click the button below to get started.  I can't wait to start your story!
