When my son was seven, he wanted to be an American Ninja Warrior. He watched the show religiously. Took classes at a local gym. We even installed equipment in our basement. His passion was INTENSE for several years.
And then one day… poof. Ninja dreams out. Tennis racket in.
That’s the thing about the tween years — conviction runs deep, even if it doesn’t last forever.
And what I'm learning (as a mom, and as a photographer), is that if we don’t document these passions while they’re unfolding, we don't just risk a lost memory. We miss proof of the special little people they were becoming.
That’s exactly why I created the Little Legends photo experience — to celebrate passion, confidence, and imagination during this beautifully (and sometimes) overlooked stage of childhood.
And this 9-year-old baller? He’s a perfect example of why this age matters.
Camden is a sports fanatic! He is a natural athlete and loves sports, sports and more sports! According to his mom, he started playing basketball when he was 5 and fell in love. Now he plays almost daily — with his team, in the driveway, or in the basement.
There’s something incredibly powerful about seeing a child discover his love of the game : )
I mean, look at those moves : )
I love that ❤️
Of course we love the trophies and a big number on the scoreboard. But the deeper lessons matter more:
Resilience.
Discipline.
Showing up for your team.
I love that Cam is already inspiring others, on AND off the court.
There’s a certain shift that happens when kids step into their element. And Cam absolutely came to life when he held that basketball.
The initial nerves faded.
His “game face” showed up.
He brought out alllll the moves 🏀
There was focus and energy — but also this quiet self-confidence.
He wasn’t performing for the camera. He was just relaxed and REAL.
If you have a tween at home — full of passion, heart and imagination — please don’t let this time pass quietly.
Before their self-consciousness settles in...
Before comparison gets loud...
While they’re still willing to show off who they are...
Capture their story. These years are worth remembering 📸
XOXO,
Kasey
